Just recently, after 10-years away from the big screen Jean-Claude Van Damme came back for Expendables 2 looking better than ever before.
Also known as “The Muscles From Brussels”, Van Damme mentioned some of his training techniques in an interview that allow him to look better than most 25-year olds (he’s 51).
After visiting many of the beautiful places Marrakech, Morocco with my wife yesterday, we met a local fellow who was so generous to share his knowledge of the city, where we should go, where not to go, the best sites to see and more (of course, this was all “given” to us for a small fee)
Anyways, as he was talking to us… He looked at me, flexed his muscles, pointed at me and said “Jean-Claude Van Damme!”
My wife got quite the kick outta that one as did I.
I guess I was just expecting Superman but hey, Jean-Claude Van Damme is a close second right 😉
Inspired by that comment, my wife and I got back to the Riad we are staying at and performed a 25-minute Jean-Claude Van Damme workout. Before we get to that though, here’s some quick tips from the Muscles From Brussels on how he still looks so good:
1. Eat BIG
Your body is a machine and the better the fuel, the better it looks. Jean points out that he doesn’t eat anything like he did in the past. He only eat foods that will completely nourish and benefit his body.
2. Bump up the cardio
You know where he’s going with this… SPRINT! Jean says a good high intensity sprinting session needs to be done a few times per week for your best body.
3. Get Flexible
Jean mentions his choice is ballet, however… yoga, dance, gymnastics, etc. will do the trick. Flexibility is HUGE at any age, so start NOW!
Oh yea, and Jean-Claude practices what he preaches:
4. Train EVERYTHING
Jean mentions that those meme’s you see of the people with a ripped upper body and super skinny legs are no joke…
As he says, “train for symmetry.” Hit all parts of the body and make sure they all look good!
5. Stay strong mentally
“You have to be strong in mind, big with passion, and have a total commitment to life and to looking good.” Enough said.
Alright, now let’s get to the workout!

Jean-Claude Van Damme workout….great mate 🙂
Thanks Tony 🙂
Three of us did this (in Australia) last night. I am 57 male, 1 x 23yo Female, 1x 26yo it’s a good workout. We were all caned! The timing is a good flow and I reckon we will use that as a template and add/change exercises to mix it up. All a bit sore too!! Thanks!! What are your thoughts on increasing the rests between circuits? After doing it I think maybe 2 minutes to recover between circuits so you can attack each circuit a bit harder. Also after watching the heart rate monitor it would allow a nice drop between sets to give a nice HIIT peak and flow during circuit. Or maybe my tired old body needs more than 30 secs to recover. Judging by my young buddies though I reckon I was on the money! 🙂
Cheers
Andy
Love it! Great to hear. And absolutely. You want to make sure you go hard on each circuit. That is very key. Great to hear you are sharing the workouts 🙂
