Day 1… “I can’t wait till I burn enough belly fat to see my abs… It’s going to be awesome!”
You’re motivated, focused, and ready to achieve your goal…
Then it hits…
Usually coming around the 7-10 day mark… The struggle to keep going, the doubts, the lack of motivation…
I too am a victim of this… In fact, it’s something that I struggle with most.
You see, often times when setting a new goal or trying to accomplish something, it’s easy to skip past the present moment and look into the future… As if the goal has already been completed.
And the truth is, when you do this, it can be counter-productive and even cause you to quit.
In his book ‘The Practicing Mind”, Thomas Sterner states, “We have a very unhealthy habit of making the product – our intended result – the goal, instead of the process of reaching that goal.”
What he’s saying is that we completely blow off the process because we are so focused on the end result.
This often times results in serious frustration because we aren’t where we want to be RIGHT NOW.
For example, the day one goal of, “I can’t wait till I burn enough belly fat to see my abs… It’s going to be awesome!”, already has your mind thinking you should be at that goal.
So instead of using that statement as a rudder, you mind starts thinking anything less is failing.
This is why when that 7-10 day mark comes and you can’t see your abs yet, you may start getting discouraged or worse… Quit.
In my experience as a trainer and online coach, my most successful clients were the ones that ENJOYED the process of getting fit.
What exactly does that look like? It’s simple really. It comes down to three easy steps.
1. Make TODAY your best day.
2. Make your NEXT meal your most important.
3. Make your NEXT workout your best.
Focus on one day at a time, one workout at a time, and one meal at a time.
Don’t even worry about the end result. Use the end result simply as motivation to keep you going.
When you focus on the NOW, you will feel more successful, be more focused, and see better results.
The reasoning for this is simple… You will stay consistent and motivated.
So instead of your progress charts looking like this:
Day 1… “I can’t wait till I burn enough belly fat to see my abs… It’s going to be awesome!”
Day 7… Quit.
It will instead look like this…
Day 1… “I can’t wait till I burn enough belly fat to see my abs… It’s going to be awesome!”
Day 7… More motivated than ever.
Day 42… I can see my abs!!!!!
Take it one day at a time. Focus on the NOW, the process.
Now go out and crush your goals!
